2017 Election: Candidate Statements (A-Z order)
Candidates for the four MAN Board of Directors positions

Candidate Statement for Pat Davis

I have been the Vice President or Director of four different Non-profits including Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Children's Hospital Foundation Los Angeles, St Bernradine Foundation and Mountain Community Hospital Foundation.

My responsibilities included grant writing. I received grants from $500 to $1,000,000. I was responsible for marketing and press releases as well as fundraising. At St.Bernardine I was responsible for raising $3,000,000 and at Mountains Community Hospital Foundation $500,000 (a 100% improvement from the previous foundation director).

In addition to this previous experience I have been an artist in the Gallery for four years. I have organized student art shows and currently organize the artist's schedules on the calendar.

Following is my visition for carrying out the Mission and Objectives of the Mountain Arts Network: It is always helpful for new people with new ideas and attitude to join the board. There has not been anyone on the board with my non-profit experience. We need a fundraising plan and a goal to raise money for the Gallery. I would like to see us become more well known on the mountain. We are still an incredible secret on the mountain. I know the grantors in California and understand grant writing and the grant process. I have raised considerable funds through grant writing. I understand marketing and have worked with the newspapers on the mountain for eight years. I know the editors and the staff of the papers as well as the Chamber staff. I have been raising money for my organization. As the scheduler, I also know the artist and their personalities and issues.

Candidate Statement for John Hummel

I spent most of my working life in customer service and customer service management. I have over six years as a MAN Board member, and have been involved with the inner working of the organization during that time.

I believe that the more we can be involved in the community, the more the local residents will be aware of our presence here in Lake Arrowhead. Through our gallery, the CAC and the activities we do we can stimulate an interest and understanding of art here where we live.

I believe that I can contribute to the Mountain Arts Network as a BOD member in the following ways: Through active involvement with the function of the board. Through my understanding of the mission, the bylaws and the outreach of MAN.

Candidate Statement for John Kirby

I've been working in the nonprofit social service field for over 20 years, the last 15 in senior leadership roles, primarily in grant writing and fund development. I've raised over $82 million in total funding through government and foundation grants, and individual donor development and private fundraising. I'm also a private consultant (since 2009) assisting with fund development planning and execution.

Following is my vision for carrying out the Mission and Objectives of the Mountain Arts Network: I am attracted to MAN due to the community work in bringing Arts Education and instruction to our mountain schools, and underserved populations. I know from programs I've designed and secured funding for that when young people delve into making art they do better in school, are less likely to be involved in drug use and crime, are more likely to go on to college, and ultimately are more successful in life. I would love to bring my experience to bear on ensuring fiscal stability to MAN, and growing the work we do in the community to help these young people realize their full potential through making art.

I believe that I can contribute to the Mountain Arts Network as a BOD member in the following ways: I believe that I can help MAN tell their story to foundations, and quite possibly government agencies, in such a way as to significantly increase the breadth and depth of our funding relationships. I also believe that my experience in building strategic relationships can help increase the breadth of our community work, increasing our reach to underserved youth on the mountain.
