DEBRA A. PRICE AGRUMS SPOSA, BIO/STATEMENT
Debra has applied her talent to numerous works of art for the past 45 years, with a fondness for the Ceramic and Fiber Arts. She grew up in La Mirada, a suburb of Los Angeles, Ca., and has been creating art since taking her first art class in the 7th grade. Her mother, a professional seamstress, taught her to sew, knit and crochet as a young girl, and gave her 1st little loom in kindergarten, and a mini sewing machine in the 4th grade. Debra grew up designing doll and dog outfits, and sewed many of her own clothes throughout high school. Knowing she wanted a teaching career as early as the 2nd grade, she received her B.A and Teaching Credential from California State University at Long Beach in 1979, majoring in Art with a special emphasis in Ceramics, Textiles and Surface Design. Her most recent focus is on Eco-Printing on both fabric and paper.
In 1985 she received her Masterís Degree in Educational Psychology from the United States International University of San Diego in Irvine, and continues to take numerous art classes to learn new techniques to incorporate into her curriculum.
Debra began her full time teaching career at Whitney High School in Cerritos, Ca. in 1980 where she has been teaching the arts for the past 35 years. She teaches Drawing, Painting, Design, Ceramics and Crafts for grade levels 7 through 12. She has taught over five thousand students and showcases their art work along with hers on her personal blog at www.artisun.blogspot.com.
Debra lives in Anaheim Hills with her husband Jim and pup Sophie, and has two grown children, Zach and Danielle. She also has a cabin up in Crestline, Ca. where she has built an art studio and plans to teach art classes there when she retires.
